Duke of Edinburgh Award
The Duke of Edinburgh has been running within Holly Lodge Girls College for a number of years and it has been successful each year.
Last year we saw the programme take on new management from the school’s well embedded mentor base, where students and parents/carers across all years have positive relationships with staff. This led to over 100 students joining us to complete their Bronze and Silver Awards with an outstanding 56% pass rate! This is higher than the National Average.
There are three progressive levels of DofE programme which, when successfully completed, lead to Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. All three areas of the award Bronze, Silver and Gold are offered to our students.
2024 seen the DofE team introduce some new and creative changes that encourage greater student engagement and will also encourage our parents/carers to share in this experience with their young person. Those who are interested in joining the Duke of Edinburgh Programme can speak with one of the DofE managers for more information – Angie Martin or Faye McDermott.
We have strengthened the Holly Lodge Girls College ethos and values within our DofE whilst remaining true to the DofE’s core values. Our team continue to work closely with Merseyside Police Force and their Safer Schools Officers. It is the combination of school staff, safer schools officer and parental support that makes the DofE programme such a success within our school for our young people.
This year we are hoping to build our DofE relationships within the local community which will support us funding the programme for our young people. In order to do this we have build positive relationships with our local MP Ian Byrne who is an avid supporter of the programme and young peoples progression. We are also in contact with Paula Clarke who works closely with the Safer Schools team to provide funding for young people.
If you are interested in helping us fundraise or have any ideas that can support us to raise funds to continue the Duke of Edinburgh Programme in Holly Lodge Girls college we would love to hear from you
