On Friday 17th November, the annual Educate Awards celebrated excellence and achievement in primary and secondary schools across the North West. Holly Lodge was one of three secondary schools shortlisted in the ‘Outstanding Arts in a Secondary School’ category. As one judge commented, “So many amazing entries! Some categories were really hard; I kept opening better ones and changing my ranking!!! I would like to give nearly everyone a prize”.
We were shortlisted in recognition of the various events and projects that our pupils across all Key Stages had successfully participated in throughout the 2016/17 academic year; Grand National millinery commissions, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital mural commission, The Lord mayor’s Charity Fashion Show finale, Slow Down for Bobby poetry book illustrations as well as our Sefton Park Arts extravaganza!
Year 13 BTEC Fashion pupils represented Holly Lodge on the night, showcasing their Red Rum inspired hat designs down the red carpet and catwalk. Kim O’Brien, Executive Editor of Educate Magazine, commented:
“A biggest part of why it is such an amazing evening is having brilliant schools like Holly Lodge Girls’ College perform…..It was truly wonderful to have this added aspect of Arts at this year’s event, and as in previous years Holly Lodge students are a testament to their school.”
Congratulations to all pupils and Creative Arts staff.
